Chapter One

Chapter One

Photos really add meaning to piece of article it comes with. I believe photos can change the world, mainly because it gives more detail and a better understanding of the actual situation at hand. For example if you talk about the effects of an earthquake means something, but if you add a photo of the disaster and how it left the area people understand more and can visualize it.

This photo above is a photo taken by an unknown author but found on this website http://www.gougeoninsurance.com/business-blog/bid/30653/4-Reality-Checks-from-Japan-s-Earthquake-Disaster it is a picture of the effects of an earthquake that hit! This effects me because one of my aunts houses got hit really bad during an earthquake and I remember going to help clean up and I was totally shocked. According to the one of the articles posted “36 stories that prove citizen journalism matters” ayoung boy states “photographs capture the sense of wonder in the world.” I thought that was a good quote because I agree with that statement and think photos really tell the true story.

“Sometimes a great photo can changethe course of history” this is a quote from the research question, “Do photographers change the world” I believe photographers do change the world; they make us see things in a different way. Usually it is a way to connect us all to one thing. This photo is a good example that shows how photographers change the world. This photo was taken to represent a protest and raise awareness to the people around the world.

Also according to the video on do photographers change the world, it raised a good point. Photography can persuade peoples opinions and on how they view things. Photography has a huge impact oh society because people believe what they see, if there is a picture to back something up you are more likely to believe it. According to the article “Censorship of war causalities in the U.S” the author said by posting pictures of the war and the injured people, the media took interest in the case and sent more help. They used photojournalism in a way to get more information out to the society and the public.

Book Introduction

Photojournalism is a form of journalism using photos to add relevance to the stories. It can also be used to enhance a photo, or add depth to a story. Adding photos can help the reader’s understand and connect more to the article being presented. Photojournalism enhances the news stories. Images taken by photojournalists summarize the article, and by doing so, newspaper reading and news watching becomes more effective. Also they can better relate the news to real life situations and understand fully what it’s like to be in that actual place at that actual time. People may be interested in studying photojournalism because it pieces the unknowns together for not just you, but all the readers.

According to the video posted titled “History Is..” it talks mainly about why studying history is important. It teaches us about the past information we may not know about! Also it has no limitations, and there’s always something you didn’t know and you are able to learn. The video states that history comes for the word“story.” I think that is a powerful statement because there is always an explanation about something and with picture it adds reality to the story.

A video titled “Why Study History” piggy backs off of the first video because it states that history is a window in the past and photography fills that empty whole. It fills in the missing pieces you try to put together. Adding photography gives stories meaning. Once you understand the past, it makes the present easier to understand. Also the video makes a good point by saying you are always connected with history. You can be in one place and understand the relevance of being on an entire other side of the world. You may have never seen a part of the world but if you add a picture of where you are talking about, it can almost make you feel like you have been there before.

Lastly studying photojournalism is fun you can be creative. You have the ability to always try new things out. In the video “War photography” it is a good example of how photojournalism tells stories without words. When putting up a picture of war, people instantly understand and get it. Words are not necessary, and also sometimes words aren’t enough. You can’t explain the pain and emotion people go through but a picture can show the emotion.
